Haiti (February 20, 2007).


So, aside from lame missionaries sipping Sprite and reading Creole Made Easy!, the plane was packed with Haitians going home for Carnival. And me. Apparently, the Haitian government spent $2 million (the NYC advertising equivalent of a flier behind the driver’s seat in a couple Bx15′s but a shitload for Haiti) advertising to Haitian-born US citizens in an attempt to get them to come home for Carnival.

Haiti (February 6, 2008).

Alain picked me up from the airport in Port-au-Prince at 9:30 am on Saturday. We drove to his dad’s house, and then three hours through the mountains to his beach house in Jacmel. In the course of a few hours, we drove from the sketchiest, most hellish place imaginable to one of the most beautiful.
